The RX Kids Protein Snack Bars use gluten free ingredients, but the product is not gluten free certified because it is manufactured in a facility that makes gluten products.
When our products are made, samples are lab-tested for gluten presence. In order to label a product as “gluten free,” the FDA requires that no more than 20 parts per million of gluten is present. RXBAR products do not become available to consumers unless they test below this standard.
We take quality control very seriously and strive to remove allergens from the line to avoid cross contamination. We clean our equipment using validated sanitation methods between production runs. If an allergen is present, it will be listed as part of the 'contains' statement on the food label.
The "may contain" statement is of equal value to other precautionary labeling such as "manufactured in a facility" and "produced on the same equipment" and should not be interpreted differently. There is no difference in the likelihood that an allergen, outside of those stated in the ingredients, is present. We updated this wording on our packaging to allow customers to make an informed decision when consuming our products.
Those who have gluten allergies or strong reactions to any presence to gluten should always consult their doctor before consuming our products.
